Thank You for Playing!

Unfortunately I haven’t been an avid collector of Lego in years, but I’m not gonna lie: this set looks damn COOL.

The one moment I hate in books/movies/TV shows:

You’re playing along and enjoying the story so far, when, suddenly, one minor character does something to another minor character (either physically or verbally) that really just gets your goat.  Naturally, you want to see a resolution for the victim character as soon as possible, and you want to see the other character’s karma give them the comeuppance they deserve.

However, the story decides to shift to other issues entirely, leaving the previous issue unresolved and making you feel more sorry for the victim character than ever.  The story drones on and on, and you end up enduring the entire book/movie/episode just to see a resolution for this one character.

But wait, it’s almost the end!  It looks like the character you hate is about to get what’s coming to them!  Then something happens that kind of, sort of affects the hated character… and it is NOT SATISFYING.  And so, you are forever to wonder whether the victim character will ever achieve retribution for what was done to them.

The literary world is a cruel, cruel place. ;_;

I was finally able to buy an HDMI cable for my PS3 today.

I had never had the luxury of being able to play video games in HD before (except at stores and friends’ houses), so my entire gaming life has been played out on just a 480i screen.  I bought the cable thinking that it would just make some of the visuals sharper; no big deal.  So I plugged it into my PS3 and booted it up in HD literally for the very first time.

Holy sweet mother of the resolution gods it was the best thing ever to grace the screen and also unbelievable. The fact that this sort of technology has already been around for at least six years simply astonishes me.

Things to compare this moment to:

  • Setting your computer monitor at a higher resolution than it was previously at and marveling at the difference
  • Buying a brand new Game Boy Color and playing all of your old Game Boy games on a glorious color screen
  • Being prescribed super-ultra-mega X-ray glasses with built-in microscopes that can examine every minute detail

So, if you still happen to be living under a rock like I was, you should probably buy yourself an HDMI cable if your TV supports it— I got mine at TJMaxx for just $8.  You’ll then be able to “ooh” and “ah” at the screen for hours… without actually even playing the game!

In my digital design class today we were assigned a comic strip project using photos and filters.
Obviously, what happened next was inevitable.

So I’m playing the iOS version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 on my phone.

I had never actually owned THPS2 before now, so it wasn’t particularly nostalgic to me on its own.  I did, however, grow up with the original THPS on the Dreamcast, which is why I kept hoping for the first game to be ported to iOS as opposed to just the second game.  Well, until now.

I decided to enter Free Skate mode for the first time and was flipping through the levels to choose when suddenly I came across Warehouse, Skate Park, and Downhill Jam from THPS.

Obviously my first thought was “Guys what are you doing in my THPS2, you must really love me.”  I have no idea if this was in the original game or not, but it was an awesome surprise.

I know it’s no THPS, but still, guys…

I get to play in Warehouse and Downhill Jam on my phone.

Guys I think I’ve perfected glowing letters. ._.
